Water to the home

Professional services that are built to last

The challenge
Across low- and middle-income countries billions live without reliable water at home trapping families in cycles of poor health, missed education and lost opportunity. Lack of access to safe water disproportionately impacts women and girls, who spend hours each day collecting water, limiting their health, education, safety and economic opportunities.

Sustainable service delivery
We invest in sustainable market-based water solutions that bring safe, affordable water to taps in people’s homes. By combining grants, risk capital and partnerships, we help build financially viable systems that keep water flowing for the long term.

Current priorities
We are scaling two initiatives: Solarisation – to reduce costs and emissions and improve the reliability of water supply. And Water Revenue Financing Facility (WRFF) – to unlock new capital and attract private investment for water operators at scale.

What we fund

We fund market-based water solutions that bring safe, affordable water to taps in people's homes. Our partners range from water service providers on the ground to the technical and financial organisations that help them scale and stay viable for the long term.

Who we work with

Our portfolio spans a diverse range of water service providers from local entrepreneurs to large-scale utilities. Each is chosen on the basis of our confidence in the management and a shared understanding of a clear plan to deliver sustainable services at scale.

Case studies

Our case studies show our strategy in action

Water to the Home

Addressing the financing gap for private operators in Cambodia

In Cambodia, over 400 private water operators deliver piped water to rural communities under 20-year licenses. Our Water Revenue Financing Facility provides the financing and support these entrepreneurs need to increase access and quality.

Water to the Home

Pay-as-you-go (PAYG) solar for water service providers

We are partnering with Epicenter to understand what incentives are needed to bring PAYG solar, non-revenue water and digitalisation projects to WSPs.

Water to the Home

Facilitating private sector participation in the water sector

We worked with the World Bank to build up the foundations needed to attract private sector investment in the water sector.
