Our strategy
Philanthropy
A dual approach to lasting impact
The Stone Family Foundation takes a dual approach to philanthropy — funding both internationally and in the UK. While the opportunities and challenges differ, the principles are the same: backing bold ideas, strong leaders and models that can grow sustainably.
Water to the Home (International)
We invest in market-based solutions that expand household access to safe, piped water across Africa, Asia and Central America. Our focus is on approaches that are financially viable, scalable and capable of transforming entire systems.
- We support piped water operators, technical service providers and financing mechanisms.
- We build on success in Cambodia and aim to replicate this model, particularly across Africa.
- We fund innovation such as solar-powered water systems and revenue financing facilities.
UK Grant Giving
We provide multi-year, mostly unrestricted grants to charities supporting children and young people in the UK. Our priorities include:
- Mental health (with a focus on young people, prevention and early years).
- Disadvantaged youth, helping to level opportunities in education and employment.
- Eating disorders and domestic abuse, where support can change lives at critical moments.
United by one ethos
Whether funding water enterprises in Kenya or youth charities in the UK, our ethos remains the same:
- Long-term commitment.
- Trust-based, collaborative partnerships.
- A willingness to take risks and learn from failure as well as success.
Case studies
Our case studies show how strategies work on the ground both in the UK and Internationally
